Closed and Open Systems
A choice between the recurring cost of loneliness and the threshold of shame.
If you have a choice, whether you want to live in a closed or an open system mainly depends on one question: which do you tolerate more, loneliness or shame?
In a closed system, the system enforces rules that eventually isolate you from the outside world, physically or mentally. In an open system, the system constantly expands and forces you to accept new realities, most of which can be shameful to some.
I believe loneliness is a long-term, recurring cost that has been heavily discounted, while shame is a barrier to entry that brings delayed satisfaction.
